With no more options to venture through, Hassan will be left with only one choice; to flee and start up a new life, leaving all the ties that have braced his entire being. But some ties are too tight, when severed; it will change his balance and force him back to face a tragedy.

Following his leads, Hassan will find himself roaming the streets of London for reprisal. Even with eight spirits by his side, which are connected to him by the tragic event of his birth, he will feel outnumbered, going against the Minerva Group and its limitless arsenal of agents and brutes. Hassan will desperately try his best to stay out of their reach until he finds a way to cut his losses short.

But being too deep in the belly of the beast, he may end up losing more; his life, or even worse… his sanity.

Book givaway… who wants a fiction thriller for Christmas?

Hello everyone,

So we survived the apocalypse, we get to see another Christmas but we also got to miss a thousands of years anticipated action.
This year was a real blessing for me and I didn’t want it to end like they foretold, so since we are standing on the threshold of the next chapter of our lives, 2013, my next chapter in the ‘Psych’ series, ‘The Remnant’, and of course, Christmas, I decided to do a little giveaway of my thriller, Psychs.

IMG_1146

As you can see, that’s a picture of me holding plastic cards showing the picture of my book cover, behind those cards there are Promo codes for the book. Four lucky people will get to win my thriller, all they need to do is to try and guess the five code numbers in the middle… come on guys, I’m not that cruel, besides, it’s Christmas!

Here’s what to do, simply just learn if this book is your cup of tea by viewing the pre-publication video of me talking about my thriller, and most importantly, visit my website and learn more about my book and about me. Once you like what you tasted, just leave a comment down below, if you are one of the lucky four,we’ll talk later.

So, I hope everyone is exited for Christmas and the holidays, and I hope my gift will find its way to you.

Kirkus review of my thriller, Psychs…

It’s finally out and in the open. A positive review of my thriller ‘Psychs‘ from Kirkus Reviews, one of the world’s most reliable reviewers. I really loved what they said about my book, the only negative they mentioned did not originate from the story itself, but from some mistakes that managed to pass by my editor.

It was a short review for most of the article went into explaining the jest of the story with no spoilers to be leaked out. Here’s what Kirkus had said about me and my thriller that I found interesting:-

‘Amin, a screenwriter, includes fantastic, sometimes gory action sequences fit for film.’

‘Jumping around in the flashbacks can be somewhat jarring, but it’s used effectively enough to allow readers to fully understand the history and motives driving Hassan and Adam.’

‘Action-packed tale of beyond-the-grave good vs. evil.’

The words (Rough-hewn) were used and they were a negative but the positive counteracted it.

Another thing I would like to share with you all is my recent interview at ‘Paranormal Book Club‘. It was a really nice and entertaining conversation. Feel free to drop by and hear what I had to say for their questions (Also by clicking the picture below).

Psychs – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish

My parents are leaving in an hour for a visit and my little sister always sleeps late during vacations, I couldn’t wait anymore for them to leave. I looked at the spirits surrounding me and said. ‘Let’s talk’ I said, then closed my room’s door. ‘My name is Hassan what’s yours?’ They replied in turns. ‘Mine is Joseph.’ ‘Rodriquez, call me Rod’ Rod gave a wink. ‘Steven Chow.’ ‘Markus Reed, at your service.’ Mark took a bow and pointed at the female ghost to follow. ‘Nice to meet you Hassan, my name is Emma’, she smiled and waved. ‘Sorry for scaring you’ Emma said. ‘It’s ok’ I replied, then my eyes went to the one next in line. ‘Jack.’ ‘Mason.’ The last one to be introduced was a…

A Book and A Dish…

I should explain…

Yes that’s me, and I’m holding what I tried to cook for the first time… I also categorized this post as book review. So what’s happening?

Simple, I received an e-mail from author Martha A. Cheves, the author of ‘A Book and a Dish‘ , ‘Think With Your Taste Buds: Desserts‘ and ‘Stir, Laugh, Repeat‘. Every week she posts one of her recipes and a book review. So guess which book made it to her list?? Yes, mine.

She chose (QUINOA PILAF) as the right dish for this book, branding it as a (Hassan special)… For those who are new to my fiction thriller, Hassan is the name of my main character. It is also the name of my older brother who I created the character in his honor (Read here: A tribute to my hero, my brother). The dish was amazing, and the review… well, you can read it yourselves and see why she was motivated to chose my book with her delicious dish.

‘Psychs’ review by Martha A. Cheves.

I copied the review below in case you don’t like traveling a lot, and as for the recipe, you can get it through the previous link.

My name is Hassan what’s yours?’ They replied in turns. ‘Jack.’ ‘Mason.’ The last one to be introduced was a woman I had first seen behind the glass window, the one who had watched me sleeping when I was admitted. She looked different, they all looked military, and she was the only one who didn’t fit in the picture. And for some reason, she looked very familiar to me. ‘Sara.’ My eyes started to widen. ‘I am your mother dear.’

All through his life Hassan has felt there was always someone watching him. Now and then he would even see a quick movement out of the corner of his eye. It wasn’t until he came to the rescue of a woman and child being beaten by husband only to have the husband bring him near death that he realized his images were real. At least as real as ghosts can be. They had always looked after him but couldn’t communicate, until Hassan came up with an idea. Sign language. That would give he and the ghosts a way of communicating without actually speaking. But Hassan’s ghosts were not only his guardian angels, they became his teachers. Through them he was able to lead a 2nd life that would prove most valuable in years to come.

Adam, also known as Shark, was a Navy Seal that had been held prisoner for years. His capturers were of the worse type. Torture was used more as an entertainment than to acquire information they might need and since Adam’s strong hold was his hands, their first form of torture was to remove his arms leaving him with no method of self-defense. They may have destroyed his body but they never destroyed his mind, soul and determination to live. So, after 13 years of torture, Shark meets Hassan and the battle begins.

Psychs is a book that brings out the strength of mind over body in its desire to live, both through Hassan and Shark. The stories of both that lead up to their story together is one that may sound impossible but with the author’s ability to write, you can see, feel and picture each line as it happens. This is a very well written book and an extremely interesting story. I can actually see this one being made into a movie with someone like Bruce Willis being Hassan. Now I’m impatiently waiting on the next book in the series ‘The Remnant.’

My ongoing journey as a writer…

My works are not the results of the last 5 years, they are the result of my entire life, starting from my childhood. I attended with my body every day in our world, but my mind was suspended in its place between many. Starting school exactly after the Iraqi war with Kuwait was over made me one of the most unpopular kids in my classes. The sure result was isolation. I created my own corner, and it grew bigger, opening the doors for many other fantasies and new characters, personas that shaped me within time. The only person who made my life easier was my older brother who never stopped being there for me when things get rough, which is why I created the main character in his honor.

My isolation and imagination was the conditioner for the fragment of the art’s soul lying within me, it made me become what I am right now, that fragment was bound to grow in the direction it did right now because it had me as the catalyst. My first time to unleash it was in my university years in Emirates (which is one of the locations in my novel). I met my best friends over there who introduced me to their own fragments, we connected those pieces together and ended up with an idea for a movie.

I started finally when I was on my own after I changed my major and decided to change my university. During that time, I took the liberty to share and place my ideas on paper instead of just having them pass by on my mind. The first idea was ‘Psychs’, it grew too much until eventually it possessed me and made me talk about her. Two days later, my friend called me, asking about my idea while he was inside a DVD store, he thought it was a movie. And thus the path was clearer in my journey, and I didn’t waste anytime walking through it.

My publishing experience had a disastrous start which will lead me eventually to experience. I thought that all you needed was a print house and that’s it… right?… Wrong. I found one and ended up with a thousand copy of my book but, and here’s the kicker, with no real ISBN number. So imagine how hard it was to convince bookstores to place my book in them. I succeeded eventually in Kuwait, they were really nice with me and thanks to them, my novel became a bestseller over there. It was a small victory but it felt big. I started with a new publishing house now, AuthorHouse (Parent company is Penguin) and I have never felt more comfortable. They are really professionals and thanks to them, my book can be obtained worldwide. And the latest news was the Kirkus review, but I will share that later in the near future.

This is a picture of my desk… It soothes me whenever I sit there.

So… since I shared my real story of how I became a writer, I would like to share what I wrote with you all.

Psychs is all about fusing reality with fantasy… sound’s familiar? I guess I couldn’t avoid using that clay of my life in the novel. My center was Hassan, my main character and my tribute to my older brother, I thought of him and then the story sprang. He’s someone with eight spirits connected to him by one fateful event. Those spirits will soon become his teachers and give him their knowledge so he can be able to lead another life, where he gets to use his gift and their knowledge for good.

Here’s a pre-publication video of me talking about my novel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bhMMxhb2ZI

And here’s the novel’s cool widget: http://book2look.com/vBook.aspx?id=BYOlb1oXNc

I decided to write this post as my way to share my experience and to raise the curiosity of other authors and avid readers to ask questions. I was always on the lookout for author’s stories, and I loved it when I see how alike we sometimes are.

I would love to answer questions from readers, bloggers and authors. You may end up learning something or better yet, teaching me too. I’m not too proud to not admit that.
